The upper panel (a) shows the electron dose absorbed in the silicon volume per half day as a function of time. The blue line shows the averaged absorbed electron dose per half day. The thick red vertical lines indicate the time of occurrence of the geomagnetic storms. The lower panel (b) shows the dose as it is accumulated in the silicon volume during the irradiation period (black line). The blue line shows how this accumulated dose would evolve considering no dynamics. The red line shows the accumulated dose when using AE8.
