The Journal of Space Weather and Space Climate (JSWSC) seeks an experienced and well-organised scientist to succeed one of its two current Editors-in-Chief (EiCs).
JSWSC is a gold open-access journal that publishes scholarly articles on space weather and space climate in a broad range of scientific and technical fields. For more information about JSWSC, see the journal website https://www.swsc-journal.org.
In the past few years JSWSC received between 80 and 100 submissions per year, including submissions to Topical Issues. After an initial evaluation of the suitability for potential publication by the EiCs and the Managing Editor, a member of the Editorial Board with expertise in the topic addressed by the manuscript will be assigned as the corresponding editor to lead the peer review process until a final decision is taken by an EiC.
The EiC strives to advance the journal's scientific reputation, to foster growth in both, the quality and quantity of published papers, and is committed to ensuring a high ethical standard for the review and publication of submitted manuscripts. The EiC has a good command of written and spoken scientific English.
The EiC is expected to assume the following tasks:
- Develop further the JSWSC publication strategy;
- Ensure that papers published in JSWSC are of high quality;
- Serve as the JSWSC representative and spokesperson to the public;
- Serve as contact to the JSWSC publisher (EDP Sciences) and the organs of the European Space Weather and Space Climate Association (E-SWAN);
- Solicit manuscript submissions from the space weather and space climate communities;
- Assign Associate Editors to handle the review process of submissions received by JSWSC;
- Assist Associate Editors in the review process of submitted manuscripts;
- Ensure fair sharing of the editorial workload between the members of the Editorial Board;
- Decide on acceptance or rejection of a submitted manuscript;
- Support establishing Topical Issues (TIs) and supervise them from their initiation until their closure;
- Organise and conduct meetings (in person or virtual) with the Editorial Board and the Publisher.
The term of service of an EiC is four years. It can be renewed upon mutual agreement between the incumbent of the EiC position and the JSWSC Editorial Board. An EiC of JSWSC does not receive a honorarium or support for travel and meeting participation.
A complete application for the position as Editor-in-Chief of JSWSC includes:
- Full name of the applicant;
