Topical Issue "Solar variability, solar forcing and coupling mechanisms in the terrestrial atmosphere", deadline 15 September 2013
Deadline 15 September 2013
The Journal of Space Weather and Space Climate (SWSC, http://www.swsc-journal.org/) plans a Special Issue on "Solar variability, solar forcing and coupling mechanisms in the terrestrial atmosphere", to appear in 2014. This topical issue is organised by the Editors-in-Chief of SWSC, conveners of three sessions at the latest general assembly of the EGU (Vienna, 8-12 April 2013), and members of the COST Action TOSCA (http://www.tosca-cost.eu).The three EGU sessions are:
- Solar forcing and coupling mechanisms in the terrestrial atmosphere (CL2.7)
- Solar and stellar variability: what can we learn from a joint effort? (ST1.5)
- Contribution of Solar and Geomagnetic indices to Space Climate and Space Weather (ST5.2)
Authors of oral and poster presentations given at the conference are hereby encouraged to submit manuscripts. However, this special issue is open to all and is not exclusively limited to conference participants.
This interdisciplinary issue will address:
- The various mechanisms of the Sun-Earth connection by which external forcings (e.g. solar radiative variability, energetic particles, etc.) may impact the upper, lower and middle terrestrial atmosphere, eventually affecting climate.
- The role of couplings between atmospheric layers.
- How the intercomparison of solar and stellar observations sheds new light on our understanding of solar variability.
- The current status of indices and their role in our understanding of the coupling between solar activity and the variation of our space environment.
Important deadlines are:
- 31 May 2013: declarations of intent, with preliminary title and list of authors should be sent simply by email to Thierry Dudok de Wit (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ).
- 15 September 2013: final submission, directly to SWSC via online submission tool (consult "author information" on the left-hand side menu on the SWSC web site)
All manuscripts will be peer reviewed according to the quality standards of international scientific journals. The type of contributions must fit the style of SWSC. It is therefore required that all manuscripts submitted for publication in SWSC contain enough new insight, present the results against a properly referenced background of existing work, and present adequate evidence that supports the conclusions. Accepted papers are published in electronic format only and are freely accessible by all.
The guest editors are G. Cessateur (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ), M. Kretzschmar (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ) and T. Dudok de Wit (This email address is being protected from spambots.
