Deseasonalized ISCCP D2 VIS-IR low (>680 mb, shown in blue) and middle + high (<680 mb, shown in red) cloud anomalies displayed over the period of 07/1983–06/2008. Data shows an anticorrelation of r = −0.66. Artificial jumps in the time-series are visible, most notable of which occurs after 10/2001, these appear connected to changes in the sources of data from the ISCCP satellite network.
