Heliospheric magnetic field strength at Earth inferred from the cosmic ray record (Steinhilber et al. 2010). The deep excursions to zero or even un-physical negative values are not understood and may be artifacts caused by too aggressive extrapolation from modulation potential to field strength. This is presently an open and controversial issue.
