Contribution of different particle types to the dose equivalent rate in tissue (a, in μSv/d), dose rates (in μGy/d) in tissue (b), and silicon (c) calculated with different transport models for the Martian surface (atmospheric shielding: 22 g/cm2). MSL-RAD measured a dose rate in tissue of 0.21 ± 0.04 mGy/day and a dose equivalent rate of 0.64 ± 0.12 mSv/day Hassler et al. 2014).
