Annual pdfs and mean values of the normalised power input to the magnetosphere, Pα/Po for 1612–2015 and for the best-fit coupling exponent for the Ap index of 0.53. The colour contours give the pdf, evaluated for bins in Pα/Po that are of width 0.01. The Po used here is the average value of Pα from spacecraft measurements over 1964–2016 (inclusive).
