Panel a shows the probability of detection (POD) versus probability of false detection (POFD). The horizontal line in panel a) marks POD = 0.5 while the vertical line marks POFD = 0.5. Panel b shows the Heidke skill score (HSS) versus model frequency bias (FB). The horizontal line shows no skill score, HSS = 0 while the vertical line marks the perfect score for frequency bias, FB = 1.
