The figure displays the time profiles of the variations of both SAA parameters: the maximum proton flux and the corresponding area with respect to the beginning of the geomagnetic storm at several altitudes. Please note that the vertical axis of the bottom panel for the lower altitudes, 300, 400, and 500 km corresponds to the SAA actual area, not to the variations; this was because their related proton flux areas were much lower than the area threshold at the beginning of the geomagnetic storm.
