The figure illustrates the application of the WGM method to the 3D magnetic field of ARs 11166 (left panel) and 12192 (right panel), respectively. The evolution of the value of WGM and the distance parameter D pm are plotted at particular heights representing the line formation heights of K I, Na D, and Ca I. The green strip denotes the onset of the X2.0 flare observed. The vertical blue line marks the moment of the closest position of the positive/negative barycentres at a range of heights including the photosphere and the line formation heights of K I, Na D, and Ca I lines.
