Diagram of the PARASOL model. The thin black line upstream of the shock schematically depicts the interface between the inner foreshock modeled analytically based on self-consistent SOLPACS simulations and the outer foreshock simulated in PARADISE. It should be noted that the actual shock-normal distance from the shock front to the model matching interface depends on the shock magnetic geometry (see Sect. 2 for details).
