The field residual (B) is obtained from the raw signal (A) by subtracting the total field (F) component of the CHAOS-7.17 model. The signal is detrended via subtraction of the residual after applying a Gaussian convolution (σ = 10) filter (C) to better identify outliers. Outliers are then replaced by the filtered (smoothed) residual (D) and the signal is then ready for spectral analysis.
