Cross sections of the tail from the BATSRUS model runs showing the magnetic field intensity, B. The rows are for X GSM (=X GSE) of (from top to bottom) −10 R E, −15 R E, −20 R E, and −25 R E. The columns are for dipole tilts ϕ of (left) +35°, (middle) 0 and (right) −35 °. The outer ring is the bow shock and the two tail lobes, separated by the low-field plasma sheet can be clearly seen. At all X GSM, the field in the “winter” lobe (south for ϕ = +35°, north for ϕ = −35°) is similar to that for the ϕ = 0 case (and sometimes very slightly enhanced), whereas for the “summer” lobe (north for ϕ = +35°, south for ϕ = −35°) it is always considerably lower.

Current usage metrics show cumulative count of Article Views (full-text article views including HTML views, PDF and ePub downloads, according to the available data) and Abstracts Views on Vision4Press platform.

Data correspond to usage on the plateform after 2015. The current usage metrics is available 48-96 hours after online publication and is updated daily on week days.
