The weighted standard deviation of angular offsets between HWM14 predicted anti-wind direction and observed wave direction as a function of altitude for the various period ranges (left panel) and the altitude at which the standard deviation minimises for each period range (“optimum” altitude, right panel). Standard deviation is weighted by wind speed as in Figure 8.
